St. David’s Christian Preschool is a small school that teaches Christian values along with a theme based curriculum for 2 1/2, 3 and 4 year olds in a safe and secure environment.
Our class for children who are two and a half years old is held once a week for an hour and a half for 10 weeks at a time. There are three sessions throughout the year. The first three weeks of each session are Mommy and me. Parents are encouraged to stay in the classroom with the children. The next seven weeks are cooperative, each parent taking turn being the class assistant. The children will learn colors and shapes, make a craft project and have snack and story and music during the class time. Children may join the class the session closest to the time they are turning two and a half. The cost is $120 per session.
In the 3 year old curriculum we teach shapes, colors and the numbers 1 through 5. Our emphasis is on teaching social skills such as sharing, taking turns and using words to express feelings and needs. We offer 2 day AM and PM classes and a 3 day AM class.
In the 4 year old curriculum we teach the letters of the alphabet and their sounds. We review colors and shapes and teach the numbers 1 through 10. The children also learn to recognize and write their first names. We teach kindergarten readiness skills. We offer either a 3 day AM or 5 day AM class.
The ratio of teachers to students is 2:8 for our small classroom and 2:16 and 2:18 for 3 year olds and 4 year olds in our larger classroom. Also, our staff is trained in CPR.
The 4 year olds take at least two field trips during the year. We have programs that come to the school for the 3 year olds. We also have Guest Speakers for the whole school including a dentist, firefighter, dog show, magician and guest story readers.
We celebrate every holiday with a class party and have a Christmas Program, Thanksgiving Feast, Mother’s Day Tea and Very Important Man Breakfast as whole school events. In addition, each child celebrates his or her birthday during the year.
Being an outreach of St. David’s Lutheran Church and a Christian school, we attend chapel twice a month. During chapel the pastor reads us a bible story and we sing and pray. We say grace each day before snack.
We have several mission projects in which the children participate during the year to teach them to love and help others. At Christmas we have Operation Christmas Child. During Lent we collect money for Heifer International. We also sponsor a Hop-a-thon for the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Long Island and a Trike-a-thon for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Our school provides each student with a tote bag and we ask parents to provide snack each day. We provide juice. As we are aware of many allergies children might have we carefully check each snack to make sure it does not cause allergic reactions. We are a peanut free school.
Our fees are as follows: $75 registration fee, $126 per month for a two day program and $172 for a 3 day program and $270 per month for a 5 day 4 year old program.
